Practical Process Control

This course teaches the fundamentals of practical process control including trouble shooting and optimisation of PID control systems. Particular emphasis is paid to solving problems that occur in many loops, but about which very little formal knowledge has previously been available. Classroom lectures are accompanied by analysis of field test data and dynamic simulation. (max 6 delegates)
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This course is for Maintenance Technicians, Controls Engineers, and other personnel responsible for the operation and maintenance of the plant control system.
Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to:
Determine the testing sequence to optimise each loop in a control system.
Understand why loops often don't behave in the way they should, and know what steps must be taken to rectify the problem.
Perform control loop analysis tests to troubleshoot and tune feedback control systems for optimum performance.
Understand the test techniques needed to optimise various control strategies including deadtime dominant loop, cascade controls, surge tank controls, and adaptive gain.
Have much greater confidence in himself and in his own abilities to perform his job.

Analysis of problem control loops, taken from various plants around the world, will be reviewed, including how to determine optimum tuning parameters for various conditions.
5 days, including 2 days of field application of the training on live loops.
